Today we arrived at Skagway. another small town which ,after breakfast, we visited.
A very small place, more like a village. .We walked into the village and visited the area were they preserved some of the old Blok huts which were the mainly for the male population after the goldrush started. Women followed the men and prostitution became normal since most men left family behind. This was tolerated for a long time but was outlawed in the 1970.
We walked back to catch the bus which brings us to the place where we are going on a dogsled tour. The sled has wheels and 6 people are on the sled, very heavy for the dogs but they are in training and were doing very well. In winter there is a race of 11000 miles which they start with 15 dogs but must finish with at least 5, The route is having medic stations to care for the dogs. We had the tour for 15 minutes and after we went to the training centre and saw some puppies which was very enchanting. The person who drove our sled was a qualified vetenarian who gave up her practise and now lived in the woods in a cabin with no electricity and no running water. She has 26 dogs she is trying to train for racing. She told us she loved living in the woods with just the dogs. I was disappointed no Huskies were involved. I enjoyed the trip and also the ride to and from the station in Skagway.
